50 States Shoveling Fines- Huh?

I shoveled, spread and compacted ‘Pink Fines’ today. How does that advance the ’50 States in 50 Weeks’ preparation?

Actually, it does advance the cause. I own a vacant lot with a garage (I know, weird) and will use it to store my car and truck. The short driveway however was a four- wheel drive affair. Getting the car into the building would be impossible. Hence, the grading.  But it sure didn’t look appropriate. We should be packing!

5o States- Easy rRder The Movie

The first challenge to reviewing the movie 'Easy Rider' was finding it. Not available On Demand. No rentals. I signed up for Nexflix and promptly canceled when they didn't carry it. Then I found it, right under my nose. You Tube! Yep. I searched 'Easy Rider' and it came up, the entire movie, first. I watched it on my computer for free. And let me tell you, I got my money's worth. Generally it's  a stupid movie that doesn't really have a plot or move along, about two guys (Jack Nicholson tags along for three) that wander around the country smoking dope and riding their bikes.

50 States- Sick and Gray

“Hello Kevin, it’s Percy. Your bike is ready.”

Nooooo! The bike is finished and Quilter Girl and I are both sick! She got the Creeping Crud and was nice enough to share it with me. That’s what love is all about. The nice thing about the flu is you can give it away and still keep it.

50 States- Just Roll On... Yeah, Right!

‘Easy Rider,’ that worthless movie, depicted two guys riding around the country, no responsibilities, no schedules, and no commitments.  Somehow everyone (including me, to a degree) subconsciously believes the same.  Just fire up that bike and go. Bob Seger glamorized it as well, with his song, “Roll Me Away:”

“Took a look down a westbound road,
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler,
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on.”

Twitter- At Last!

Yes, I finally violated my conscience and signed up for Twitter.  It always seemed like a stupid little communication device: “@ store buyn wtrmelon.” Who cares? Yet, it can be an effective way to reach out to people, quickly and painlessly.

Actually, it makes sense on the ’50 States’ trip. Awesome view? Tweet it. Great restaurant? Oh, yeah. Terrible one? Probably so.  Somebody know a road to take? Cool. One to avoid? Weather issues?

50 States- Some Sacrifices

“Well, I hope it’s worth it to you.” That comment came from a Doubter, a friend who, while not saying so, obviously thought jumping through all the hoops was certainly not worth all the effort for the 50 States trip.

She just doesn’t get it.

50 States- The Budget

TLW and I been tracking costs on various trips and have come up with a rational budget. (If you ever watched the movie 'Easy Rider', those guys didn't use a budget... look where it got them!) So here's a snapshot of what we think the trip will cost:

Gas is pretty easy, the only wild card is the price per gallon, but we'll go with 4 bucks. If it goes higher, it's Obama's fault, right? Any problems, we blame the president. Okay, maybe not.

50 States- The Schedule

Due to demand, I am reposting the 50 States schedule. You will note that some states get more time than others. For instance, Texas gets extra days, or we would just ride through it as fast as we could. California too. And Alaska includes taking the ferry North and riding back the AlCan Highway through Canada. Rhode Island, Kansas and Nebraska get shorted, and you can figure out why! Although we will be stopping in Kansas to see the world's largest ball of twine. I can hardly wait!

Happy 300th Birthday!

We interrupt this '50 States' preparation to celebrate the 300th blog. Wow, time and events fly by.
We began with 'My favorite Things' (3/-8) and traveled around the countryside since then. Indianapolis (complete with a 1,032 mile day- whew!), Death Valley (5/10), San Diego (5/11), and last November, Iowa to Vegas, where the Little Woman and I dang near froze to death. Since then you haven't heard us complain about the high price of the electric suits, have you?

50 States Last Supper and Moving
Wednesday, 25 April 2012 20:24

Last night our good friends Keith and Melody had us over for the Last Supper. And brace yourself: She took our plants. Incredible. Those plants will actually live and perhaps even thrive.  While the plants live under our care, it can’t be credited with much more than survival. I think the plants got a much better deal than the dog. I just hope none of the plants try to blog. Too weird.
